British Columbia Black Powder Association is a group of individuals dedicated to the sport of black powder shooting and its way of life.
Black powder shooting celebrates a time in history during the fur trading in Canada and the United States. Based on the fur trade era, individuals dress up in period clothing, shoot muzzle loading guns and stay in traditional tents and tipis. At the shoots there are many different competition events. You can find black powder rifle, shotgun, pistol and cartridge events. There is also traditional Knife and Hawk throwing, Primitive Archery and survival skills. Across BC there are many Clubs who hold weekend shoots for fun and competition. In the month of July the BC Rendezvous is held in Kamloops for 10 days, participants come from all across Canada and the USA.
The black powder community is a close knit friendly group that are always welcoming new members. We are family orientated and always include the children in our events. We have many families with multiple generations coming to the shoots and Rendezvous. Most events have a junior and /or cub category and we encourage the children to participate, allowing them to learn new skills. During BC Rendezvous you can find activities and events that are for the children every day. We believe in teaching the next generations; creating crafting opportunities to introduce them to life during the fur trading era, learn survival skills, and weapons safety.
At Weekend shoots and any Rendezvous you will find 2 areas; one is Tin Tipi camp and the other is Primitive camp. Tin Tipi is where you will find modern camping and the Primitive camp is where you will find those who choose to stay in traditional tents or Tipi’s, dress in period clothing, and recreate life of the fur trading era.
All visitors are welcome to come and enjoy any area of a Shoot or Rendezvous and may visit either camp.
